Post-Surgery Strategy Shows Promise in Delaying Liver Cancer Recurrence

Postoperative recurrence remains the main reason many liver cancer patients fail to achieve long-term survival after surgery. A new prospective multicenter study shows that combining a targeted systemic therapy with postoperative transarterial chemoembolization can significantly delay tumor recurrence in patients at high risk. The dual approach integrates systemic and locoregional control to suppress residual disease following curative resection. Patients receiving the combined therapy experienced a markedly longer period without cancer recurrence than those receiving standard treatment alone, while maintaining a manageable safety profile. These findings suggest that intensifying postoperative treatment may offer a practical and effective strategy to improve outcomes for patients most vulnerable to early relapse.
