Welcome to The ACP Advocate.
It’s been a busy week, starting with the release of the Health Reform Dialogue report last Friday. ACP played a critical role in making sure vital elements supportive of primary care were included in the final report. Perhaps, most importantly, the report means it can now be said that there is an emerging consensus for reform from a very broad coalition of stakeholders that includes patients (consumer groups), providers, insurers, employers and others.
Also in this issue, you’ll find information about an ACP member who has been chosen to lead the Obama administration’s efforts on health information technology. And, you’ll find out what ACP President Jeffrey P. Harris, MD, FACP has been doing in Washington to promote the cause of internal medicine.
Finally, if you’re planning on attending Internal Medicine 2009, check out our last article on courses about health policy that will be offered at the meeting. I’m excited that we were able to draw such illustrious guests to discuss these issues with our members.

ACP Announces Expanded List of Vendors for EHR Partners Program
This week the College announced the new vendors who will participate in the 2009 cycle of ACP’s EHR Partners Program (EPP). The EPP is designed to help physicians and their practices compare EHR systems. The comparisons are based on a database of information - including user ratings, assessments of the EHRs in use, and standardized pricing scenarios. Information on the new vendors will be available on the EPP website in late-April. In the meantime the names of the vendors participating in the new cycle, as well as the evaluations from the 2008 cycle, can be found on the program Web site. |
