Welcome to The ACP Advocate,

It's been a busy couple of weeks at ACP.  It was good to see so many of your faces at the Internal Medicine meeting in New Orleans.

Our first two stories in this issue let you know about new policy papers that the College released last week.  The first one, Achieving Gender Equity in Physician Compensation and Career Advancement, looks at some of the challenges faced by women in medicine and makes recommendations on how to achieve equity.  The second paper is all about the social determinants of health.  Our paper lays out how non-medical factors, such as where someone is born, works, grows and lives, can affect an individual's health, and examines ways to reduce health care disparities that result from these factors.

In our third story we take a look at regulations for 2019 related to the Affordable Care Act.  ACP is concerned about new rules that relax the requirements for essential health benefits to be covered under insurance plans and that would expand the time that someone is allowed to have a short-term plan.  Our worry is that these changes will destabilize the health insurance marketplaces.  Take a look at the story for more about our concerns.

Finally, in our last story we update you on what's happening with ACP's Physician Well-Being and Professional Satisfaction initiative.  Read the story to learn more about what the College is doing and how this relates to our Patients Before Paperwork initiative.
