Welcome to the ACP Advocate,
It might have seemed as if the war over the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was won when the repeal-and-replace effort against the ACA failed in the Senate. ACP thinks otherwise, noting that the most recent Senate vote doesn't mean that advocates for patients and physicians can stand down.
Today's first article reviews what may be coming from the White House, Congress and ACP. And, don't forget how above all else, the message of ACP continues to be steady and consistent: Repair the American health care system, but do no harm and put patients first.
Our other article notes that "Pick Your Pace," among participation options in Medicare's new payment program, is a program with a critical looming deadline for physicians. Paces must be picked before it's too late.
The three options range from minimal participation, essentially testing the system, to partial participation to full participation. Each has an imminent deadline, which is why this article is especially timely and helpful.
Look for the next issue of the Advocate to be distributed on September 8. Congress comes back to town on September 5, and it won't be at all surprising for it to be appropriate to provide an ACA update. We also plan to cover ACP's reaction to the proposed MACRA rule and a recently passed (by the ACP Board of Regents) policy statement that recognizes hate crimes as a public health issue.
