Welcome to The ACP Advocate,
Today’s first article lets you know a little bit about what's ahead for health care funding in 2017 with the recently passed 21st Century Cures Act and the continuing resolution that will fund the government through April. The 21st Century Cures Act, increased the pace of drug approvals and also increased funding for medical research. Read the article for our take on the benefits and potential problems in the new law.
Our second article today updates you on what happened at the recent AMA meeting. I'm happy to report that at the meeting the AMA House of Delegates voted to sign on to the "call to action" to prevent firearms-related violence that ACP and others first published in Annals of Internal Medicine in 2015. It's important for organized medicine to be working together to more effectively work toward solutions for this public health issue.
The next issue of the ACP Advocate won't be coming to you until Jan. 13, so until then happy holidays and see you in the new year.
