Welcome to The ACP Advocate
Today’s first story is an update for you on a major issue we’re advocating on here in Washington. The across-the-board sequestration cuts are scheduled to begin after the New Year. While everyone agrees that these cuts would have devastating effects and no one wants them to go into place, Congress has yet to come up with a path forward. I encourage you to take a look at the story for more detail about what the cuts would do and what we are recommending to Congress.
Our second story today looks at the Democratic and Republican Party platforms that were released at their conventions last month. Take a look at the story for more detail about what they say about health care issues. And, if you have not already checked it out, I encourage you to visit ACP’s Election 2012 website. We’ve updated the candidates' stances post-convention as they’ve released more details about what they intend to do on health care policy.
Finally, today’s last story lets you know about a new publication from the Patient Centered Primary Care Collaborative. Benefits of Implementing the Primary Care Patient-Centered Medical Home presents a growing body of evidence showing that the PCMH model of care is working. It’s exciting to see evidence that these new practice innovations are working.

Apply for the 2013 Health Policy Internship
Applications are now being accepted for the 2013 ACP Health Policy Internship program. The internship, which takes place in spring 2013, provides one Associate member and one Medical Student member with opportunities to gain legislative knowledge and advocacy skills while working with the College’s Washington office to prepare for ACP’s annual Leadership Day. Applications are due by Oct. 22. |
